Sometimes life takes a turn we weren't expecting. Our greatest fear is standing right in front of us. It's different for each of us in that we rarely would ever have the same thing happening to all of us at the same time. You may know someone that has lost their job, but you still have yours. Your marriage may be perfect in your eyes, but your parents are divorcing. Someone lost their spouse to an unexpected illness and you're still healthy. But things happen unexpectedly all the time. We will never understand it.
Jesus experienced pain and agony on the cross, and though He is our Messiah, He still suffered. He never promised us that we wouldn't have problems in life, but He did promise He would never leave us nor forsake us.
My unexpected journey started with a phone call from my daughter stating that she had cancer. Before I could fall apart, she stopped me. She told me I had to be strong for her or she wouldn't be able to get through this. Of course I sucked it up and became her super mom like she asked me to. I relied on God to get us both through this.
We're finally close to the end of this long, rugged journey and still have hope and peace in Jesus. He never left our side during many heartbreaking surgeries and Chemo and Radiation and loss of life the way it used to be. But we will never stop believing in the Jesus that's been with us the whole time. God never promised us a rose garden, as the song says. And he never promised us a perfect world or a perfect life or that this earth would be our forever home. But He did promise that He would never leave us nor forsake us.
So many things in our lives could change the paths that we're traveling on. And although our paths may twist and turn or re-route a different way, our destination will always be the same.
"When trouble comes your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow." James 1:2
