Isn't it true that many times we put our foot in our mouth? We say things we wish we could take back. I can remember so many times when I said something, and immediately wish I hadn't been so harsh. We're not the only ones that struggle with this. In Psalm 39, David talks about guarding his mouth. He simply said, "I will guard my mouth with a muzzle!" That's how hard it is to keep our mouths shut. It has to be muzzled!

The Bible says, "Whatever is in your heart determines what you say." Our character says a lot about us. If we are an angry person, then we will spew angry words out of our mouths. If we are a negative person, our words will be negative. If we are always spewing venom, I'm pretty sure people will not want to hang out with us for very long. Psalm 51:10 says, "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me." In other words, Lord, change my heart so my words will be pleasant.

On a more positive note, if we are happy and love the LORD and want to be a blessing to others, our voice will bring forth uplifting words of encouragement and kindness. Those are the people that every one wants to hang out with.

And finally, "Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life." And it is also the portal for which every spoken word comes from. Therefore, it is always a good idea for us to think before we speak.......just sayin!
