Rewind My Video for the Day....

Have you ever wished you could just rewind your day and start all over again? Maybe you said something to someone that hurt their feelings, or you were concentrating and you snapped at someone for interrupting. Or maybe you shared some juicy gossip and it came back to you. There are all kinds of reasons why we would want to rewind the day and start over.

A few years ago, my grandkids were spending the night with me, and because the next day was a school day they had to get in bed early. After they'd had their baths and were in bed waiting on me to tell them a story, I stepped into the bathroom to pick up their towels. To my surprise, there were matches all over the floor. Why in the world would I keep matches in their bathroom in the first place? Secondly, they could have burned the house down because of my stupidity!
Immediately, I went to their room and here is the whole conversation:
Nana: Which one of you were playing with matches? You could have burned Nana's house down!
Alissa: I didn't do it!
Peyton: I didn't do it!
Nana: Well, one of you did it. It would be better for you if you just tell me who did it.
Peyton: I didn't do it, Nana
Alissa: I know I didn't do it.
Nana: Ok. I'm going to the other room to pray about it and Jesus will tell me who did it.
(I looked at Peyton and he had his finger making circles around his ear and his eyes were looking up and around like he was thinking.)
Peyton: humm.....uhh..mmm....Let me rewind my video for the day.....humm. Well, I might have done it!
It was one of those moments where you were trying to keep your composure but you wanted to laugh uncontrollably! Instead, I thanked him for telling me the truth and asked him to please not ever play with matches again.
Two weeks later they are back at Nana's house to spend the night again and the same scenario happened. Only this time, there was aerosol spray all over the mirror. Once again I asked, "Which one of you sprayed the mirror with aerosol spray?" Peyton immediately said, "Nana, I didn't do it. You can ask Jesus and he'll tell you I did NOT do it."
So, the message in this story is, "If you can't say something good about someone, then don't say anything at all". If we live by this simple advice, we wouldn't have to rewind the video of the day to find the truth. The Bible says, "Truthful words stand the test of time, but lies are soon exposed." Prov 12:19. Yikes!
